No Girls Allowed:)

So, I guess my continuing mantra will be "A mother of boys works from son up to son down" 'cuz that trend will be maintained @ the Parker household! No need for us to watch reruns on Nick @ Nite to see My 3 Sons in full effect:) It's actually Chris' fault, but I think he's actually quite proud of his masculinity! Actually you can see that he made a valiant effort to add a last-minute vote for another female by wearing pink-notice I stayed neutral with yellow:) Nope, not a shocker to be having another boy seeing as how I pretty much thought all along-this a.m.'s ultrasound just confirmed what I already knew to be true! I'm a firm believer in the old wives' tale re: heartrate (lower=male) & though his actually sped up to a whopping 145bpm, it wasn't a big surprise. Too bad I've tried so hard to crave sweet instead of salty (another old wives' tale in favor of females:)) that I gained a little more than I would've liked this month too-oops!:)

Trouble is, as I mentioned, that we can't agree on his name & my other boys were named by the ultrasound @ the latest...so I think that might be why we're still having a bit of an identity crisis for the lil' guy! Wish us luck on that part 'cuz my OCD will really take over now-Otherwise, he's healthy & that's most important of course! Just left with kind of a different feeling without the novelty! If he's lucky, he might get a new outfit in which to come home from the hospital:) Oh wait! I almost forgot that I already invested in 4 sets of gear for TMNT that the boys plan to use on Halloween-The littlest brother might only be a couple weeks old, but he's all set to be Donatello (Chris will get in on the action too:) They've told me I can be April or Shredder?!) I'm sure you can tell in my tone that while grateful, I'm overwhelmed @ the prospect of raising yet another boy when my 2 are TMTH lately! For the record, in the past week I'd heard the statistic that your likelihood to have a third of a gender increase if you already have 2 in a row?! So be prepared those of you who are considering the odds! Guess there's no defying the Chinese lunar calendar for us:) He looks a bit cramped per Baby Center, eh? We're in good company re: those who are currently raising 3+ boys...I guess starting with Chris' own family (though not all in a row), his brother Mike, cousin Rick Parker & my bro-in-laws' parents, brother & sister (Uffens, Dan Uffens, Andrea Farrell & Bergesons); friends from high school (Dicksons, Mike Colemans, Jake Craguns, Alisa Parker-->Lee, Mikaela Hochstrasser-->Griggs & Becky Sue Marsh-->McCubbins); friends from college (Stevensons & Pabsts) & friends since then (Haines & Bakers) not to mention the famous one like Osmonds, Huards from Puyallup & the Chipmunks:) that we all know & respect-It's raining men-hallelujah! My OB-GYN said he wasn't going to give me any sympathy 'cuz he had 4 boys before his only girl & 5 total:) A family in my sister's ward in Las Vegas has 7, count 'em, boys!! whoa! So I will survive...Serves me right for coming from a family of all girls. While we remember Ben with love, he would've definitely been outnumbered by hormones:)
If you'll excuse me now, I have to attempt pitching a ball to my oldest son after reprimanding my middle son who broke my new set of salad tongs that he used instead for weapons & flushing/putting lid down on the toilet that one of 'em left yet again...Ah the joy of being the only female around here...never a dull moment! Let the games begin!
p.s. hopefully you won't take title personally:) we still welcome all grandmas, aunts, female cousins & friends of course!! you can also rest assured that I'll spare you the picture Chris insisted on taking of the jelly smile prior to my actual ultrasound...Gotta love SueAnn (ultrasonagrapher)-

Memorable Moonlight BBQ

So, Chris had to work all a.m. (no thanks to my indecision with previous car offers) & the winning car deal took most of this afternoon...Thus our festivities for Memorial Day were somewhat limited! I felt badly for my boys who did their best to behave until it was a done deal, so I took advantage of my new ride & drove over 520 bridge to play for a bit @ Green Lake in Seattle (a favorite park from my childhood days when my dad went to UofW) . I even let 'em enjoy an ice cream appetizer @ B&R across the street. Don't worry! I didn't let 'em drip onto our new car:) though they brought plenty of sand with 'em from their attempt @ sand angels on the playground?!
Chris had bought some fab filet mignons over the weekend, which he takes great pride in flavoring & BBQing. More stops @ gas station & grocery store meant we rolled into Puyallup for dinner around oh, 9P! Yes, Dane had already crashed for the night & missed out; however, Cole wasn't about to skip Dad's gourmet steak:) How romantic for us, eh? Don't worry if my 5 y.o. finally climbed into bed @ 10:30P asking why we didn't do anything fun today?! Meanwhile my husband is headed back to work until wee hours of tomorrow so we can pay for the new additions to our family! Let's be honest, he was inclined to stick around & figure out all of the Acura's fancy options on its first night in our garage:) If any of you have BlueTooth or HomeLink features in your car, please let us know the secret initiation 'cuz it's a bit trickier than we thought-We were never successful with the latter in the Audi, so maybe it's a pre-owned car deal?!

I think I'm turning Japanese...

Out with the Old...

In with the New!

Because of my Audi's tragic doom last Sat. on Canyon Road, we are now cruisin' in an Acura MDX!! S'pose somewhat blessing in disguise since paid off vs. inverted trade-in possibility...just a bit sooner than we'd anticipated. We were quite ready to ditch the German models anyway after spending $2K in repairs over last 6 mos. & feel strongly that our repair costs & maintenance have got to be a little more reasonable now. The third time was the charm as far as right car/financing combo was concerned. Chris is much better @ making these kind of arrangements with big purchases, so I was able to sit back & watch him work his magic for the most part:) with help of Fernando @ Redmond Auto Center, of course. Unfortunately, it resulted in delay @ The Lab for most of the week as he searched online & made phonecalls; however, it further proved dedication to his fam:) Now we don't have to bother my parents or Kanekoas anymore, who we must thank for the willingness to loan us their vehicles in meantime:) We also got to dine @ Macaroni Grill last Thurs. even though it took a trip to Lynnwood to find out that black interior was not my fav regardless of my willingness to settle for silver on the outside! I much prefer taffeta with a saddle:) but I will miss my dark blue friend with all of its warning lights attributed to onboard diagnostic system:) The navigation & back-up monitor are a bonus that will certainly come in handy too! Not sure I'm a fan of $70 to fill up gas tank-ugh!-but I'm not complaining to have wheels again & am grateful to a hard-working husband who made it possible once again-plenty of room for Thing #3 in Oct.:)

All Dressed Up & Nowhere to Go

You probably don't care, but I still need to vent:) As I alluded, last weekend was basically a comedy of errors-ugh! I find other blogs with long posts rather entertaining, so hopefully this won't bore you as I'm able to laugh about it a week later...

On Fri., we were excited to visit Cheney Stadium & watch the Rainiers in action 'cuz it was a fundraiser spotlighting little leage baseball teams & uh, maybe they'd win (sorry M's!) We thought it might be less expensive & tastier to eat burgers first across the freeway @ Mighty Mike's-obviously in high demand 'cuz Chris beat us there (no surprise with my timeliness:)) & stood in line for a mere 45 min. when we'd only given ourselves a half hour prior to the first pitch...Smarty me left my car running for 20 of those min. & my car must've overheated with a/c & stereo on 'cuz it wouldn't start when we were finally ready to venture over to the game. Of course, we didn't have time to really charge up the battery after a jumpstart 'cuz we were in a hurry to let our handsomely adorned boys in their uniforms run the bases with Rhubarb. Well, the fun didn't stop there 'cuz the parking lot was full & that meant we got to park in nearby high school lot & TREK (in my Coach slip-ons that weren't intended for baseball game, but I decided to wear anyway for some odd reason?!) to the stadium resulting in 2 ginormous blisters for me-whoo hoo! Did I mention I got to haul my bag o' grease AND Dane 'cuz his little legs would've taken twice as long:) Unfortunately I wasn't aware of the rule that you couldn't take outside food into the stands-I thought just drinks were prohibited like @ Safeco Field so we'd polished off our shakes en route. I inhaled my now cold burger & a few fries before it occurred to me that my hand was stamped & no one was really watching @ the gate...Since I wasn't about to part with my bag o' peanuts prematurely I simply tucked remainder under my arm & in I went to very last row @ top. Suffice it to say, we've been spoiled by my dad's seats:)As you can see, Dane was glad that his mom was a rebel:)

Too bad the kids who wore their uniforms had a chance to be on the field BEFORE the game-oops! Not to fear-we still had the 4th inning jaunt with a reindeer, right? Um, no! When I realized that the 4th inning was nearing, I ran & grabbed the boys from concessions line & headed over to the first baseline while Chris waited to pay for their hot dogs/drinks (we were @ least experienced enough @ sporting events to save boys' food until game to occupy 'em:)) only to find out that somehow that was already full-how in the world were we to know that?? We thought surely we could just slip 'em in there, but too bad the seemingly neverending line came onto the field by the rightfield marker & only ran down to first base & then back out again. So it was lame for two reasons 'cuz Parker boys were left out through no fault of our own (believe it or not-we were actually there in plenty o' time) & it wasn't even literally around the bases as we thought. But apparently Cole still felt pretty tough sporting his uniform & learning from the semi-pros? It seriously would've made their day to just have a pic. with Rhubarb but he wasn't available to even stop for two adoring fans until middle of 8th inning out on the concourse (another one of dumb rules that we don't know as Cheney regulars). Are you kidding me? So this was the best we could do:The few highlights were the Rainiers were victorious, my fav Jeremy Reed was @ least 2 for 3 & every Fri. night (as far as I know, but I'm obviously NOT the expert:)) has cool post-game fireworks (amazing concept to a 5 & 3 y.o. since it wasn't 4th o' July or NYEve)!

Let this be a lesson to you if you have an interest in taking your fam to Tacoma's minor league team! Chris' parting comment was that the least Nick Lachey could do was invest in improvements to the ballpark itself:) Guess that's part o' the charm, eh?

That brings us to Sat. I hadn't exercised since the half, so let Chris go to YMCA prior to Cole's game & then decided I'd just run to meet 'em there. I figured it was about 5 mi. Well, those est. have never been my forte...So it ended up being only 3 & I felt like I was flying compared to previous distance:) In fact, I beat 'em to the ballfield only to be encouraged by my over-achiever husband to run home as well. Never mind that I swear it was 20 degrees warmer (mere mid-90's) by then & I wasn't properly hydrated, he wanted me to pick up my pace for extra incentive?! So I took off & barely survived. I will certainly not do that again @ least for duration of pregnancy! But I made it; it just took a while to catch my breath & cool off:) We sent Chris ahead to get some work done & got ready ourselves for a fun b-day party only to be rearended en route-ugh!

The guy was really nice & admitted fault even though I had just gotten off my own cell phone. I vividly remembered slowing down due to neverending construction in Puyallup, so I knew that @ least I wasn't liable; however, he made me hit car in front of me & damaged entire frame of Audi-My car automatically stopped as safety precaution following the impact, but I was worried that I wouldn't be able to start it again after last night's adventure. Meanwhile everyone else on the road was honking & yelling @ me for not getting my car outta the middle. We were lucky not to have hit the large concrete median 'cuz that would've been bad news for Cole! As it was, he was rubbing his neck & we couldn't open his door:( Dane was hysterical primarily 'cuz he had dropped his chips all over the floor but he had bitten his tongue as well-N doubt the experience was scary for 'em! They definitely take me seriously now when I tell 'em I can reach this or that or do something for 'em when I'm in the driver's seat 'cuz it doesn't take much for an accident to happen-just ask Jerry Cartwright! Overall we were fine physically as was the other driver for the record.

I can just think of better things to do on the hottest day of the year thus far than hang out @ gas station waiting for ride c/o Chris (who had to leave tons of work to accommodate us-sorry babe!) & blessed tow truck 'cuz my muffler was dragging on the ground by now, the right rear wheel well had sharp edges that were likely to puncture the tire if I persisted driving & the battery level was dropping (I'm sure there's a technical term, but you get the point:) Did I mention that I actually had my cell phone in hand, but it's forever running outta battery itself. I called my insurance co. & his, but realized that I'd still have to pay up front & be reimbursed for towing charge. The first two towing co. that I called had an hour wait until avail, so thankfully the third co. was a bit speedier (as I found out on biker's cell phone he was kind enough to let me borrow briefly:). Don't let that co. fool ya 'cuz he charged me from the time he rec'd the call & we were already on second hour by time I climbed aboard to direct him to collision shop 'cuz I didn't want to d/o sad Audi in my driveway.

I did have foresight to take everything outta my car, which adds up as you other mothers know. After that I bought ice cream sandwiches for the boys to pass time, but didn't compensate for being 2 hours late to fun party! In a nutshell, the Audi was considered a total loss by appraiser on Mon. a.m. & we were reimbursed on Weds. by his co.=pretty efficient! Now let search begin for SUV to fit our growing fam in style! The saving grace of the day was it was also Chad's b-day & he let us celebrate with him @ movie theater! Nice to unwind & watch comedy with my man; thanks to Grandma & Grandpa for watching Cole, Dane & even Cru on short notice!

I Am a Mother

So, I let Sun. slip by without a tear-jerker of a post; however, I just wanted to express my sincere gratitude for privilege (not sure if I'd call it that every day, but hey!) of being a mother to 2 1/3 active but sweet little boys, having a superstar for a mother myself & appreciating so many motherly qualities in my extended family & friends!! You keep me sane & hopeful:) My days are brightened by your example, support & encouragement as together we experience all that it takes to nurture these precious little spirits & raising husbands too?! Hmm...you know I'm joking but will pay more tribute to him next month when it's his day:)

Eye of the Tiger

Cole would've preferred the name White Lightning (their team color/t-shirts are white:)), but has reluctantly gone along with the decision to be called the White Tigers for this year's coach-pitch (he gets mad if you call it t-ball:) season @ YMCA! He has a buddy from last year & a neighbor on his team; sometime they make him more self-conscious but we like having familiar faces @ practice & on baselines! Here are some pictures of him in action @ his first game...

Not sure I quite understand the need for all new equipment after apparently already outgrowing last year's, but Chris has insisted that I leave that to him & the saving grace is that Dane can use it too-guess that's part of raising boys that I will have to accept! Sad part is seeing little brother up & dressed in cleats that are 2 sizes too big & now Cole's hand-me-down pants + his Richie Sexson Mariner raglan shirt or "jersey" for practice on Thurs. p.m. & games on Sat. way before our all-star! Dane still thinks he can practice & even play right alongside him like last year-poor guy! He has to wait until he's 4 to be on a team of his own! He's convinced that someday...maybe when he's 5...he'll be older than Cole:) We are learning that having your dad as coach did have its perks last year. I think it's harder than Chris would admit to watch another guy coach his son-he's made a few comments during drills but didn't want to commit to official job though is willing to "help out":) Speaking of which, other parents have complimented him & Cole for all of their personal training even on his batting stance...he looks pretty solid for a 5 y.o. if we do say so ourselves & nice to have a dad who knows what he's talking about! Plus my boys are blessed to have a dad that would do anything for them & loves spending that time with 'em-anything to encourage his same love for sports & confidence:) I'm rarely invited to these father-son bonding moments, but might be able to help my lil' leftie (Daner) more next year:) Doesn't have to be full-fledged summer for my boys to want to set up the bases in the cul-de-sac & practice every night until 9p with dad:) Hopefully that'll pay off with a scholarship down the road-after their missions of course!!

Going the Distance

11 wks. o' training & 13.1 mi. later...I've finished my first half marathon & lived to tell about it (just not right away 'cuz I relaxed through Mothers' Day:). Somehow my initial attempt to re-cap were just deleted, so I'll try to reiterate but not sure it'll be as eloquent or detailed as first draft!
Anyway, the pics. show that I'm even thicker than I realized; however, @ least I can say I'm in better shape than when I started this pregnancy! Didn't restrict my diet much, but increased my water intake & logged 193.2 mi. in meantime. We owe the challenge to my crazy friend Krista who had the bright idea in the first place, but moved it up from Oct. in Leavenworth to practice run in May so I had no excuse in my first trimester! My friend Juanita's husband Burton was kind enough to shuttle us all down there last Sat. @ 6:45A-ugh!; my dad recorded the Rocky fanfare so we could play it as each runner climbed aboard the van:) That added some excitement to the early morning... My sporty outfit is courtesy of Britt in addition to the energy bar & Propel that she sent in preparation for the big day. Notice my cool chip timer around my wrist & the number to make me feel even more official...I had to go to the bathroom like 5x before the run even began, but still had to make Krista stop twice @ honey buckets! My stomach was hard as a rock by the end 'cuz I didn't dare drink any water en route-I'm sure my lil' avocado was not a fan of that nor the shunted blood but survived & has been quite active ever since so I think he's in good shape too with heartrate of mere 140! My entire family was really supportive; my mom & youngest sister were waiting for me around the final bend & I heard my dad yell my name right before they announced it over the loud speaker as I crossed the finish line! In Chris' defense re: my boys' absence, Cole had team pics. & a coach-pitch game right as I was ending so I sent them the other direction! The cheerleaders I had were a pleasant surprise 'cuz I was trying to avoid the fanfare similar to my mission homecoming:) All I know was I couldn't waste the $$ after I registered-still not amused that I had to pay someone else to run that far, but hey! My advice to any other novice runners is to merely have the goal to finish & not necessarily maintain a pace & then you'll be pleasantly surprised as we were with a final time of 2:33! For the record, the clock indicated extra half hour given to the full marathoners so I wasn't cheating I promise! I even took a pic. of almost every mile marker along the way if you want to verify that I ran the whole course:) I even had a crazy surge of energy @ mile marker #12 knowing that we were going to finish ahead of schedule! Not fastest girl in town nor the first to cross of the group from our ward (Go Juanita, Lori, Bishop & Brittany!), but we don't worry 'bout that:) Let's do it again next spring!!

Addition to the Parker Cru!

Wish I could say that I'd fast-forwarded my delivery; however, we wanted to show off our new cousin...Cru Christopher Parker was born on 4/21 via c-section @ 9lbs.5oz. (poor Kyla!) His mom is only 'bout 5'4", so would've been tough to push him out naturally-ugh! He came out with jaundice probably 'cuz he wanted some color in his skin & knew he wouldn't see the sun in WA for a while?! He's fine now after chillin' on the light bed for 24 hrs.; however, his older bro. Wrigley (English bulldog) has been a bit perturbed by the new focus of attention already! Anyway my boys were so excited to meet him & couldn't wait to hold him in the hospital! I was pleasantly surprised @ Dane's reaction 'cuz I thought he'd be oblivious when it became his turn to be big brother, but he was quite attentive & this'll be great practice! Cru is actually a second cousin 'cuz his dad is Chad, but we don't worry 'bout that either! We just wanted to welcome him to the world & his parents to father/motherhood:) He'll fit right in with the 20 other Parker males who preceded him:)
